Jasper ISD's goal is to identify English learners and provide them with the appropriate program: the Bilingual Program or English as a Second Language Program. We provide these programs to ensure students achieve high academic standards and attain high English proficiency levels in all four language domains (Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing). We desire to provide our students with the tools to participate equitably in a diverse global society.
Support English Learners in Texas
Bilingual Program
In Jasper ISD, we have implemented the Early-Exit Transitional Bilingual Program. We provide an asset-based bilingual program that focuses on honoring an emergent bilingual student's home language and culture. We will do this by integrating their language and culture into the classroom through research-based and engaging instruction that supports language acquisition and literacy development.
English as a Second Language
In Jasper ISD, we have implemented Content-Based ESL and Pull-Out ESL. The English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed to enable students to master basic English language skills as a prerequisite for effective participation in the educational program. In ESL, students are entitled to instructional support with specialized teachers to enable them to develop proficiency in the English language for success in school. The ESL program's philosophy is to create an inclusive environment for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students in their classrooms.
